    Day 06Departing Amjilosa for Gyabla (2725m.|8940ft., 8km.|4.97miles, 4 - 5 hrs trek)

Post-breakfast, we embark towards Gyabla, also known as Kyapra, navigating through untouched forest trails devoid of any settlements. Today presents an opportunity to glimpse the elusive Red Pandas along the Kanchenjunga Trail, should fortune smile upon us. The journey uphill unveils breathtaking mountain vistas and numerous cascades. Gradually, we approach Gyabla village.

Our trek proceeds through lush woodlands, home to diverse plant and animal life, leading us to Phale village. Maintaining a steady pace, we advance to Ghunsa, a popular stop for acclimatization. However, our acclimatization is scheduled for Khambachen.

    Day 08Trek from Ghunsa to Khambachen (4145m.|13599ft., 11km.|6.83miles., 5 - 6 hrs trek)

Following breakfast, we start a gentle climb amidst open pine forests, keeping an eye out for blue sheep and possibly snow leopards. Our path, fraught with landslides, offers stunning views of Mt. Jannu and verdant glacier valleys before culminating at Khambachen village.

    Day 09Rest and Acclimatization Day

Taking a breather in Khambachen, we engage in light hikes to the surrounding glaciers, viewpoints, and lakes for altitude adjustment. This day also allows for encounters with many trekkers either returning from or heading towards the Kanchenjunga North Base Camp.

Pushing forward, we arrive at the quaint settlement of Lhonak, dotted with a handful of teahouses.

Day 11Journey to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp (Pang Pema) (5143m.|16873ft.) and Back to Lhonak (9km.|5.59miles, 6 - 7 hrs trek)

Surrounded by prayer flags and faced with the awe-inspiring sight of the world's third-highest peak, this moment serves as the culmination of our trekking efforts. Post exploration, we retrace our steps back to Lhonak for the night.

Day 12Descent from Lhonak to Ghunsa (3415m.|11204ft., 21km.|13miles, 7-8 hrs trek)

Departing from the path towards Gyabla, we reach Sele Le. This segment offers potential sightings of snow leopards amidst dense forests. The area features sparse human habitation with a few seasonal teahouses. In instances of heavy snowfall, the route becomes the sole connection to the South Base Camp. Depending on the teahouse availability and pass conditions, an alternate route may lead us directly to Tseram, potentially shortening our itinerary.

Setting off after breakfast, our route through the Yalung Glacier elevates us closer to magnificent mountain views. After a scenic lunch at Ramche, we hike to Oktang, the vantage point for Yalung or Kanchenjunga South Base Camp, offering intimate views of Mt. Kanchenjunga's three towering summits among others. This less-trodden path to the base camp offers a unique exploration opportunity before we circle back to Tseram.

Day 16Journey from Tseram to Tortong (2980m.|9776ft., 13km.|8miles, 6-7 hrs trek)

Descending from the heights of Tseram, our path winds through serene rhododendron forests, leading us towards Tortong. As we make our way downhill, we are accompanied by the gentle flow of Simbuwa Khola and the majestic views of the Himalayas. Our day's trek concludes with an overnight stay in the tranquil village of Tortong.

    Day 17Descent to Yamphudin (1692m.|3910ft., 9km.|5.59miles, 6-7 hrs trek)

Our trek continues as we descend from Tortong, crossing over Amji Khola and navigating through the high passes of Lasiya (3415m) and Dhupi Bhanjyang (2665m). The journey down to Yamphudin is marked by steep descents, leading us to this quaint village. Here, at the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area checkpost, our permits are verified, marking another milestone in our journey.

Day 18Yamphudin to Kanyam Excursion (1210m.|3969ft., 8 hrs drive)

After breakfast in Yamphudin, our adventure takes us through scenic landscapes and along the Kabeli Khola. Departing the highland villages, we drive to Kanyam, renowned for its picturesque tea gardens.

Day 07  Gyabla to Ghunsa Journey (3415m.|11204ft., 11km.|6.83miles., 5 hrs trek)

Our trek proceeds through lush woodlands, home to diverse plant and animal life, leading us to Phale village. Maintaining a steady pace, we advance to Ghunsa, a popular stop for acclimatization. However, our acclimatization is scheduled for Khambachen.

    Day 08  Trek from Ghunsa to Khambachen (4145m.|13599ft., 11km.|6.83miles., 5 - 6 hrs trek)

Following breakfast, we start a gentle climb amidst open pine forests, keeping an eye out for blue sheep and possibly snow leopards. Our path, fraught with landslides, offers stunning views of Mt. Jannu and verdant glacier valleys before culminating at Khambachen village.

Day 09  Rest and Acclimatization Day

Taking a breather in Khambachen, we engage in light hikes to the surrounding glaciers, viewpoints, and lakes for altitude adjustment. This day also allows for encounters with many trekkers either returning from or heading towards the Kanchenjunga North Base Camp.

    Day 10  Khambachen to Lhonak Excursion (4792m.|15721ft., 10 km.|6.21miles., 4 - 5 hrs trek)

Our journey proceeds along the Kanchenjunga glacier path, a popular route during the trekking season. As we traverse through Ramdang and past the Ramdang Monastery, we find ourselves at the challenging confluence of the Lhonak and Kanchenjunga glaciers. Pushing forward, we arrive at the quaint settlement of Lhonak, dotted with a handful of teahouses.

Day 11  Journey to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp (Pang Pema) (5143m.|16873ft.) and Back to Lhonak (9km.|5.59miles, 6 - 7 hrs trek)

Today marks our ascent to Pang Pema, the North Base Camp of Mt. Kanchenjunga. Our gradual climb takes us alongside moraines on a well-trodden path, culminating at the base camp. Surrounded by prayer flags and faced with the awe-inspiring sight of the world's third-highest peak, this moment serves as the culmination of our trekking efforts. Post exploration, we retrace our steps back to Lhonak for the night.

Day 12  Descent from Lhonak to Ghunsa (3415m.|11204ft., 21km.|13miles, 7-8 hrs trek)

Bidding farewell to the Himalayan vistas and the memories of Kanchenjunga Base Camp, we make our way back to Ghunsa. Our return journey is filled with reflections on the unique landscapes we've traversed, including stone huts, towering peaks, and the ever-present reminders of the mountain's rugged terrain.

Day 13  Venture to Sele Le Base Camp (4240m.|13910ft., 6km.|3.72miles, 5-6 hrs trek)

Day 14  Trek from Sele Le Base Camp to Tseram (3868m.|12690ft., 9km.|5.59 miles, 6-7 hrs trek)

Day 16  Journey from Tseram to Tortong (2980m.|9776ft., 13km.|8miles, 6-7 hrs trek)

Day 18  Yamphudin to Kanyam Excursion (1210m.|3969ft., 8 hrs drive)

After breakfast in Yamphudin, our adventure takes us through scenic landscapes and along the Kabeli Khola. Good to Know

    Useful Information:

Trek Difficulty: The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek is among Nepal's most challenging, characterized by its length, remote terrain, and the presence of high passes, rivers, and varied landscapes. It demands long trekking hours, often exceeding eight hours a day, in a region devoid of modern conveniences, contributing to its difficulty. Additionally, trekkers must be vigilant about acute mountain sickness (AMS), which can quickly become a serious concern.

Preparation and Physical Fitness: The trek entails extensive walking, including significant ascents and descents on rugged trails, with the added challenge of thinning air and colder temperatures at higher altitudes. Adequate physical fitness is crucial to endure these conditions without the trek becoming overwhelming. Preparation should include cardio exercises (jogging, cycling, swimming) and strength training to build endurance and muscle. Engaging in smaller hikes and treks before undertaking this journey is also beneficial.

Best Time to Trek: Optimal trekking seasons in the Himalayas are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), offering stable weather and moderate temperatures. Spring showcases the region's natural beauty with blooming flora, while autumn provides clear skies and the chance to experience local festivals.

Trek Permits: The Kanchenjunga area is regulated by the Nepalese government, requiring special permits due to its status as a restricted region. Trekking here mandates organization by a licensed local trekking company and the presence of at least two trekkers in the group, excluding guides and porters. The cost of our trek package includes all necessary permits, specifically the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Project Entry Permit (Nrs 2,000 per person) and the Kanchenjunga Restricted Area Permit (USD 20 per person per week).
